Wind im November in Hamata ?

Hallo zusammen,

wer war schon mal Mitte November in Hamata und kann mir etwas über die Windsituation schreiben?

Es ist so - wir überlegen uns, Mitte November nach Hamata zu gehen. Leider sind wir beide gaaaaaaaaanz schlecht darin, uns an einem Hotelpool die Zeit zu vertreiben. Es sollte also ein reiner Kite-Urlaub werden. (Ich würde gerne einen Anfängerkurs machen, mein Freund einfach so kiten. Er ist genial mit dem Landboard, hat aber im Wasser noch keine Erfahrung)

Was ist Eure Erfahrung mit dem Wind? Womit kann man ungefähr rechnen? Wieviele Windtage über 15 Knoten innerhalb 2 Wochen? Muß man auch damit rechnen, mal ne Woche gar keinen Wind zu haben? Ich weiß, dass man das nicht so pauschal sagen kann, wäre aber sehr dankbar über Eure Einschätzung und Erfahrung.

Servus,war schon öfter im Okt.-Nov da. Heuer 8.-19.11---Vollmond ist am 10.Nov.....Wind war immer gut,wird heuer auch so sein,hoff ich. Schaun ma moi,vielleicht sehn wir uns ja........Gruß Franz

Sind auch vom 3. bis zum 10. da (zu viert), Wind soll um die Zeit immer recht gut sein, auf jeden Fall besser als im Norden, wenn man nach der Statistik aus den Orca-Prospekten geht! Ob die was taugen weiß ich nicht, 2 von uns waren aber schon öfters zu der Zeit da, Wind war stets gut!

Und eine Option bleibt immer: im worst case geht's halt zum Tauchen!

Also, ich wünsche guten Wind vor allem vom 3. bis zum 10. November...... schon aus eigenem Interesse!

Also ich war im November vor 2 Jahren in Hamata und wir hatten

We run a kitesurf center in Sao Vicente (Cape Verde islands). Before deciding on a location, I've been looking for the right location for wind for years and the questions about wind statistics are very familiar.

We've been in Egypt a number of times and have been surpised to often find reality to be different from what the statistics suggest. I would argue that this is a general problem but I think that Egypt in the winter serves as a good example to explain at least part of what is going on:

Why is the wind often so disappointing?

Take Marsa Alam / Hamata as an example. The percentage of days with 4 BFT or more in November 2009 was 53%. Sounds OK right?

Now the number I think matters most: what percentage of time can you go out on the water ? This be measured by taking readings when we tend to be on the water (not 8am or before, not 8pm or afterwards) and demand a reasonable wind directon (cross & cross-onshore) and wind strength (11 - 25 knots for most of us).
When we look at this for Marsa Alam / Hamati in November 2009 the number is 30%. So during November 2009 you could have been spending 30% of daytime on the water.

Why the gap between 53% and 30%? (which in my mind reflects the gap between the statistics we read before going to a new spot and the experience we have at the spot)
In the case of Marsa Alam / Hamata for November 2009, most can be explained by the wind not blowing all day and the wind blowing at the wrong time (at night and very early in the morning).

My advise: do not simply use the statistic of days with 4BTF or more and ask yourself : how is the wind during the day, what direction does it blow?

no, its 50something with 3 BFT or more...

Sorry I should have mentioned the source: windguru daily archieve. I double checked. It was 53% of days were 4BFT or more.
If you have another source - would be interesting to know.

Sao Vicente was always my favorite in wind and culture (Mindelo) but the only spot I know there is an offshore beach in the south where the wind is howling with 30 knots. Was windsurfing there long long time ago...

You should come back again! Before we started the school that spot (Sao Pedro) was indeed the only known one. We went there and a local wave surfer showed us all the spots (including ones you can only reach with 4x4). The surprise to us was: 1) there are many spots 2) the best spot for kitesurfing is not Sao Pedro - it is Salamansa.

We set up out kitesurf center at Salamansa (15 min drive to the east from Mindelo): cross-shore wind, huge sandy beach , no coral , no beach break, small flat water area at the upwind side, a point break way out at one end of the bay. The wind is less strong compared to Sao Pedro. Most days 16-20 knots.

Mindelo is still the same fun city.

Ich flieg morgen für zwei Wochen nach El Naaba und bin anschließend noch bis 21.10. in Hamata. Ich bin mir mittlerweile sicher, dass der 14er wichtig wird und hoffe mal, der Mond ist nich zu sehr maßgebend für die Windstärke. Über Gesellschaft würd ich mich freuen.

Hi, möchte mich dem Thread anschliesen. Möchte Ende November 1 Woche nach Ägypten. Vom Spot her würde mir Hamata am meisten gefallen (auch mit der langen Anfahrt von Hurghada), sowie ich hier lese und die Statistiken geprüft habe in Ägypten zu dieser Zeit der beste Spot? Ist das so?


Ich wiege knapp 80 kg welche Kitegrösen empfehlen sich?
