German Surfer Missing

Police say the search for a German tourist who went missing while surfing with friends at Lennox Head on Sunday has resumed.

The 34-year-old man became separated from his friends on Sunday afternoon in rough conditions.

A rescue helicopter from the Gold Coast joined the search yesterday afternoon that also included the Westpac rescue helicopter, Ballina jet rescue boat, two lifesaver boats and jet skis.

Police say the man was wearing beige boardshorts and a black top with one yellow sleeve.

Senior Constable Kevin Patston from Ballina police says the conditions were fairly rough when the man went missing and there was a strong undercurrent to the north.

"He was on a surfboard, a seven foot two malibu which we haven't been able to sight that as well," he said.

Police have searched the shore line from Lennox Point up until Broken Head.
