For sure we have all sorts of sharks in the waters of Sao Vicente (same for all Cape Verde islands).
And indeed, you need a healthy dose of awareness and should not take unnecessary risks:
- don't go in the water after rain
- don't go on the water after dark
- don't throw fresh bloody meat in the water and swim between the pieces in an area known to be the breeding area for sharks !!
We have a lot of divers (not only tourists but also locals who go spear-fishing), so if there is a big danger you'd expect some attacks.
So what is more important: how many attacks have we seen in Cape Verde ?:

So the answer: 1 attack (unfortunately, fatal) in the period for the beginning of recordings to date.
The one attack was a diver doing point 3 at a remote rock island known to be the breeding area of sharks.
